چکیده

In this paper, we design a multi-user ultra-wideband system for indoor wireless communication. The proposed system is useful in multipath radio reception as the full multipath diversity gain is achieved. The system has multiple transmitters and receivers. They use polyphase spreading waveforms which feature low levels of mutual interference and enable each of the channel impulse responses to be measured free from distortion continuously with each data symbol transmission. A key feature of the proposed system is that transmitted waveforms are used which produce outputs from the receiver cross correlators, which are zero on both sides of the main correlation peak, for each radio path. This zero response lasts for a duration in excess of the expected delay spread of the radio channel enabling full Rake processing of the multipath signal. The effects of the low levels of mutual interference are reduced further by using time and frequency hopping, forward error correction and soft decision decoding.

Capacity of Time-Hopping PPM and PAM UWB Multiple Access Communications over Indoor Fading Channels

The capacity of time-hopping pulse position modulation (PPM) and pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) for an ultra-wideband (UWB) communication system is investigated based on the multipath fading statistics of UWB indoor wireless channels. A frequency-selective fading channel is considered for both single-user and multiple-user UWB wireless systems. A Gaussian approximation based on the single-use...

Random Sign Repetition Time-Hopping UWB with Multiuser Detection

Recently, ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which uses a very short pulse for wireless digital communications, has been extensively investigated due to its significance that enables to transmit data sequences at a very high rate. Although the propagation range of UWB signals is short (about ten meters [1]), its impact on wireless home networks can be quite significant. Apart from the support of ...

Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio of an IR system

Infrared (IR), a new medium for indoor wireless communication system due to its abundant bandwidth that is virtually untapped and freely available, is become more and more popular in indoor wireless communication systems. Based on Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS/CDMA) technique, infrared systems will use low power on transmission and reception by spreading spectrum which could...

A Theoretical Study on the Effects of Timing Jitter on the Performance of Multiple Access Impulse Radio

In February of 2002, the FCC approved the use of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for commercial use. UWB has since been considered as a solution for the next generation of personal area networks (PANs) and wireless local area networks (WLANs). UWB (or impulse) radio employs short duration pulses to communicate, thereby spreading signal energy very “thinly” from DC to a few gigahertz [1]. The “u...

Ultra-Wideband Waveform Generation Using Nonlinear Propagation in Optical Fibers

Ultra-wideband (UWB) radio is a transmission technology that is based on short pulses, whose spectral width is on the order of several GHz. UWB signals are free of sine-wave carriers, and their duty cycle and power spectral density are low. These characteristics provide UWB radio with unique advantages: improved immunity to multi-path fading, increased ranging resolution, large tolerance to int...
